India's Lupin gets UK's MHRA approval for generic hypertension drug Lisinopril
India's drug maker Lupin Ltd said it has received maiden approval by the UK's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency's (MHRA)for its generic Lisinopril tablets.
Lisinopril, a generic equivalent of Merck & Co Inc's Prinivil tablets, is used to treat hypertension and congestive heart failure.
Lupin said Merck's Prinivil tablets recorded sales close to 46 mln usd in the UK last year.
'The MHRA approval of Lisinopril tablets is our first oral generic product approval in UK. We are market leaders in this molecule in the US and we hope to emulate our success in Europe as well. This approval is the first of a series of approvals that we expect in UK and Europe in the next few months,' said Kamal Sharma, managing director of the company.
